SafvE Inc.’s first product is DrinkSafvE. SafvE and its partners are providing the technical support needed for each unique application and installation.
Our initial focus is on improving water quality. The World Health Organization has estimated 1.1 billion people in the world do not have access to safe drinking water and 2.5 billion people in the world do not have access to adequate sanitation treatment. As a direct result, 1.4 million children die every year due to diarrhea because of poor water quality and sanitation. Diarrhea is the second most frequent illness in the world. Diarrheal diseases lead to decreased food intake and nutrient absorption, malnutrition, reduced resistance to infection, and impaired physical growth and cognitive development.
Since its first inception over a century ago, disinfection has played a critical role in protecting our drinking water supply from waterborne infectious diseases. There are three primary industrial disinfection methods: Ultraviolet (UV), Ozonation and Chlorination. UV and Ozonation each require power and are impractical to set up for small families and communities. Each method requires skill and training to operate and, in the case of chlorination also produces some harmful byproducts which also requires skill and training to dispose of properly. With global warming and the energy crisis, there is a distinct need for “green” water disinfection methods. Currently no “environmental and consumer” friendly water disinfection technology exists – until now.
DrinkSafvE™ is an innovative water disinfection technology that kills bacteria, virus and pathogens on contact without producing any harmful Disinfection Byproducts (DBPs). It is an enhanced BIoSand Filter with AMP™ coated sand and gravel. Test results with some bacteria and viruses have shown greater than 99.999% reduction of those bacteria and virus, which meets EPA guidelines. DrinkSafvE™ is especially applicable for developing countries because it does not require electricity or replenishment; there are no ongoing operational costs. DrinkSafvE™ can be readily integrated into existing developing country household and community water treatment. Additionally, the filtered water can be used to grow food; thus, minimizing food contamination. As an added benefit, DrinkSafvE™ can be used as part of tertiary wastewater and storm-water treatments to minimize pollution to rivers and oceans. The impacts of a “green”, accessible and affordable water disinfection technology make DrinkSafvE™ a revolutionary innovation.
DrinkSafvE™ is very flexible: the number of filters stacked can be modified to reflect the quality of raw water to be purified. For example, dirtier water may need 3 filters rather than 2; whereas, cleaner water may only need 1 filter. In the future, SafvE plans to add a decontamination stage to remove contaminate such as arsenic.
